Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Female | spayed | 35 lbs
My dog has recently starting to whine and cry when lying down or shifting position. She was at the dog park today with no obvious “event” contributing to a potential injury. She now cries going from sitting to lying down. Perhaps it’s a muscle strain? Any thoughts on how to diagnose and manage aside from rest?

I recommend petting her all over to see if you can find the area of discomfort. You can do a body massage to relax the muscles and a heating pad over her lower spine and hips may help. You can give aspirin also to reduce the discomfort. Please give it with a meal. There is a section on this website that has information and dosages for common over the counter medications. If she’s not improved in a day or two I recommend a veterinary exam. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach to help you care for Koda.
