My cat has a cough. What are less bitter medicine options for cats?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Female | unspayed | 1 year and 11 months old

For about 6 months, Jolly has had a cough. Coughs mostly about ten minutes after waking up for around 30 secs. Is active otherwise. Meds including Caricef, Velosef, Ventolin, Azomax, Drontal haven't made any significant difference. Animal meds not available here. Vet wants to try Avil tablets and Pulmonol cough syrup, but it's impossible to make her eat/drink those. (Bitter?) Is there any feline version of these meds available abroad? Or any better, less bitter alternative that could be tried?

Both of these products contain an antihistamine called chlorphenarimine which does come in feline formulations. There are also several other options for controlling allergies including prescription medications and over the counter medications.
