My cat's neuter stitches are oozing. How to stop licking and care?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Male | neutered | 5 lbs

My cat came home yesterday after being neutered, we were given no instructions on how to care for him during his recovery. His stitches look oozy and are leaking a little bit of blood. Is there something I need to do? do we need to keep him from licking the wound?

It looks like Mordred may have been pulling out her sutures. In 2 pictures there are 3 while in the third picture there are only two. I would recommend taking her back to the veterinarian to have them evaluate her and also recommend getting her an elizabethan collar. Typically after this procedure, it is best to keep them quiet for about 10 days but cats are hard to keep quiet so we do the best we can to help them recover.
