Pet's info: Dog | Labrador Retriever | Female | spayed | 13 years and 9 months old
Hello, my dog is 14 year old female Labrador, she has a big fatty lump on her right side just over the rib cage, it’s approx size of a rugby ball. We took her to local vet who said that it’s non cancerous and if the dog is happy and eating and drinking well, then we should leave her be. But what worries me is that she also seems to be going senile and barks excessively at night even if it’s very quiet, she also poops in her bed at night sometimes but generally seems to be still eating and enjoyi

Hello, If the mass was aspirated by your veterinarian and found not to contain cancerous cells, I agree surgery is optional but ideally removal of any mass is recommended. However, you described additional symptoms such as abnormal behavior that suggest congnitive dysfunction or possibly a brain tumor. I would advise you to have her evaluated by your veterinarian or a veterinary neurologist prior to removing her mass in the event she has a condition of the brain which could change her overall prognosis.
