My dog has sudden bumps all over. Is it hives? Should I go to ER vet?

Pet's info: Dog | Boston Terrier | Female | spayed | 18 lbs

Hi , I have a 3 year old Boston terrier and all of a sudden an hour ago, these little bumps started showing up all over her body. In the pictures attached you will see wherever there are hairs sticking out there’s a bump. What should I do ? Should I go to an emergency vet?

I see what you mean about the bumps on Lola! It looks like she could have hives, and that can be caused by an allergic reaction. I do recommend a visit to the ER vet now, as allergic reactions can quickly progress and cause serious problems such as respiratory distress. It's best she is treated now to prevent this from happening, so yes, please take her to an ER vet. Best of luck!

If these just arose out of nowhere I would be concerned they are hives and she is having an allergic reaction. Since they are on her face, I would consider this an emergency, so it would be recommended to take her in to the emergency clinic right away, where they can give her a shot of benadryl and a steroid shot to stop the reaction. In severe cases of allergic reactions the face can continue to swell and the swelling can extend to the airway, becoming life threatening, and we don't want that to happen!

My dog she is 9 months old boxer mix and she haves lumps all over her body mussel nose eyes seems likes hives never happend to her before my vet clinic dosnt open until nine what do i do . Can I give her something until now or is this an emergency
This is likely an allergic reaction. As long as she isn't having trouble breathing then this can wait until your vet opens, but I would definitely get her seen today. in the meantime you can give her 50mg (2 adult tablets) Benadryl by mouth. I hope this helps.

My dog has little bumps all over her. We haven’t used any new cleaners/detergent/food.
This could be hives from an environmental allergic reaction. I'd take Swayde into a vet immediately. The problem with allergic reactions is that they can quickly progress to facial swelling and subsequent respiratory distress. That has to be avoided, so the sooner she is treated, the better. Hello. This sounds like it might be an allergic reaction. This could result in swelling around the airways. If hives are present (raised, haired bumps about 1cm across), then I would suggest a visit to the vet for some medications. Good luck with your little one!

Hi, thanks for using Boop by Petco! Poor Nora! If they appeared suddenly they are likely hives from an allergic reaction from a bug bite or other allergen. I'd call your Vet this morning and set up an appointment. They likely will give her a steroid and antihistamine injection if hives. Good luck!

My pitbull shoes about 6 year old started to have these little bumps all over about 5 hours ago and now they are all over and they are about dime sized now and they are grouped all along her sides and belly
It looks like Boo could be suffering from an allergic reaction causing hives. The problem with an allergic reaction is that it can quickly progress to swelling of the face and snout, leading to respiratory distress. I would take her into a vet immediately to get treatment for the hives. Best of luck.

Dog went outside and came running back in with raised bumps all over
It appears that your dog could have hives if this happened quite suddenly. This is often an allergic reaction to something, such as an insect bite. Most often we need to treat these with a combination of Diphenhydramine (benadryl) and steroids. We often give an injectable form initially and then send an owner home with an oral version as well. If your dog has any swelling of his face or trouble breathing he should go to the vet immediately for emergency treatment. If it is only these lesions that are present I would call your vet to make an appointment as ask if they feel it is ok to give him oral benadryl at home (they know your pet's history and can advise better than we whether it is appropriate for him).

Please take her into a veterinarian right away for treatment. She will need antihistamines and a steroid. It could be that Lovey is suffering from an allergic reaction causing these swollen bumps around his body. It could be an environmental allergy causing these bumps, but without seeing him in person, I can't say for certain. I am concerned he now has a swollen eye, as he could have injured his eye or have an eye infection. To answer your question, yes definitely take him into the vet today. The eye is such a delicate and important structure that any problem with it is considered an emergency. That's because leaving it untreated can lead to vision loss.
