What other vaccines does my social 2-year-old dog need at Petco?

Pet's info: Dog | Bichon Frise | Male | neutered | 2 years and 3 months old | 16 lbs

Hi. My 2yr old dog is due for vaccinations. I plan to go to Petco. Besides the rabies and the monthly heart medications. What other vaccines should be recommended? He goes to a groomer, takes walks and socializes a with a few selective dogs.

Great question! I highly recommend DHPPi, which is a combination vaccine that protects against distemper, hepatitis, parvovirus, and parainfluenza. I would speak to the vet at Petco to see if Leptospirosis is a problem in your area, and if it is, I'd recommend that vaccines. Finally, I'd recommend kennel cough since Kevin goes to a groomer and if you ever plan to board him over the next year. I hope this helps, great job getting him vaccinated!

Great question! Your dog needs a combination vaccine containing DHPPi (distemper, hepatitis, parvovirus, and parainfluenza), as well as a rabies vaccine. If leptospirosis is a problem in your area, then I would recommend having your dog get a lepto vaccine. A kennel cough vaccine would be recommended as well if your dog will be placed in kennels at any time over the next year.

The answer to which vaccinations your dog needs depends on her age and her individual risk factors. I am attaching a link to the American Animal Hospital Association's vaccine guideline below. https://www.aaha.org/guidelines/canine_vaccination_guidelines/practice_vaccination.aspx They recommend that all dogs receive DAPP and Rabies vaccinations. Those vaccines are considered Core vaccinations. Any other vaccinations are considered Non-Core and are only recommended for dogs that are at risk of contracting those diseases. The above website also includes a Lifestyle-Based Vaccine Calculator to help you determine which diseases your dog may be at risk for, but be sure to discuss that with your veterinarian to make the best decision. All dogs should have at least a rabies vaccine and distemper/parvovirus (DHPP) combination vaccine. If your dog has never had vaccines, he will need to be boosted with the distemper/parvovirus combination in 3-4 weeks. The rabies vaccine he gets will be a 1 year vaccine and next year he can get a 3 year booster. If there is a Petco/Vetco near you, then you can have him vaccinated there. Hi my question is this... I have a German Sheppard girl, she's now 2 years old and I've never got her shots.... now I'm wondering which shots would she need to be safe and approximately how much it costs? Thanks in advance.
She is a pretty girl!!! The most important vaccination (and one required by law) is the Rabies vaccine. This is essential. The second most important vaccine is the Distemper vaccine, which is often a combo vaccine sometimes called a DHPP (protects against distemper, canine hepatitis, parvovirus and parainfluenza). These vaccines are considered the "core vaccines" for dogs. Every dog should have them. The rest will depend on her lifestyle. I also recommend the Leptosporosis vaccine for dogs if they spend time outdoors in areas with creeks/puddles/ponds because this disease is a bacteria transmitted to dogs by contaminated water (rodents who have the disease urinate and it contaminates the water and the dogs can acquire it this way). The Lepto vaccine requries a series of 2 booster 3 to 4 weeks apart if she has never had it before. Other vaccines you may consider would include Lyme if your dog is outdoors and exposed to ticks and you are in a lyme endemic area, Bordetella also kn

A new puppy will need 3 rounds of the DHPP vaccine (distemper-hepatitis-parvovirus-parainfluenza) each round 3-4 weeks apart, and a Rabies virus vaccine given at 12-16 weeks depending on your state. Bordetella, Lyme, leptospirosis, and canine influenza vaccine are optional vaccines you and your veterinarian can decide to do based on Louie’s risk level and life style. I hope this helps!

He is quite handsome. It looks like he is due for his distemper/parvo vaccine and Bordetella vaccine. He will be due for his rabies at the beginning of March. In order to keep all of his vaccines together, I would go ahead and have all of his vaccines updated before having him groomed. I hope this helps!

Hi, I just got a dog that will be 5 in September. I got no medical paperwork but the past owners told me that they weren't able to get his shots the past 2-3 years. What shots do I need to get him?
Your dog will need several vaccines. Most veterinarians give a yearly combo vaccine that includes distemper, hepatitis, parvovirus, parainfluenza, and Corona (DHPPC). He will also need his Rabies vaccine. Rabies can now be given every three years after the initial 1 year vaccine. Other vaccines that I recommend are Canine Bordetella vacine (kennel cough) that is given every 6 or 12 months, and a Leptospirosis vaccine (this vaccine can be added to the combo vaccine or given alone). If your veterinarian offers a Lymes disease vaccine (probably means lymes is prevelant in your area), it would be a good idea to get that one as well. I also recommend getting your dog tested for heartworm disease and putting him on a monthly heartworm pill. Best of luck to you and your new dog and thank you for using pet coach.

I've had a few issues with the vet I took my Kai to among other things coming up so I haven't been able to get him vaccinated on time. I finally have some money so I'm trying to get him at least as caught up as I can for now. I'm just unsure of what
Vaccine recommendations to partially depend upon his lifestyle and where you live. Also, that second vaccine should have been given in a 2 to 4 week window from the initial vaccine. If it was given later than four weeks after the first vaccine, he will need booster vaccines within a 2 to 4 week window. Assuming he was given the vaccines at the appropriate time, Kai should get another DHLPP and a rabies vaccine. If he gets groomed, goes to the park or has contact with other dogs in general, you may consider getting a kennel cough vaccine. Other vaccines are for Lyme disease and Influenza (dog flu). Your local veterinarian can discuss if these diseases are present in your area and what potential risk factors exist. You may be able to find lower cost vaccinations at a low-cost vaccine clinic or a vaccine clinic in general. You can generally find information online. Hi! I recently got a puppy from a friend. He is 9 weeks, I am going Saturday to get his shots at Petco for his 8 weeks. I am not an expert but I think they are giving him all the shots he needs. Is there anything else I need to get him at this age? O
Yes they will give all the vaccinations he needs at PetCo. He will need two more sets of booster shots to be fully protected. They will give you a schedule for his booster vaccinations and discuss flea, tick and heartworm products if they are recommended in your area. You can also get a microchip at PetCo. As far as the papers to show his breed ask your friend if they have some from the breeder. You don’t need any papers though to get him examined and vaccinated.
