My senior cat has kidney disease & pink urine. How can I afford a vet?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Female | spayed | 19 years and 4 months old | 7 lbs

My cat (20 years old) has renal disease we give her IV fluids daily. Today her urine is pink. I am a student who does not have money for the vet (I would go without groceries to take care of her). I don't know what to do. I could afford medicine but not the appointment. My cat is my best friend. What should I do?

Po is beautiful! Thank you for including a picture. It is very common that cats with renal disease can develop secondary bacterial urinary tract infections, but we wouldn't want to give her medications that she doesn't need unless we know that for sure by testing a urine sample. I certainly understand that veterinary care is expensive. You may consider applying for CareCredit ( carecredit.com ) which often gives you a period of time without any payment or interest. If that is not an option, you may be able to find a resource to help you with financial support through one of the organizations in the link below. http://www.dogheirs.com/resources-affordable-veterinary-care/ Good luck! I hope that was helpful and gives you some ideas. Thanks for using PetCoach.
