My cat's ear is bare and looks dented after a scab. Should I worry?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | British Shorthair | Female | spayed | 4 years old

I have a 4 year old short hair, who recently had a very small scabby patch on her left ear. Eventually this has come off and has left that small patch bare, and it looks as though the edge of the ear is very slightly dented there (but that might be an optical illusion through the lack of fur in that pact). Should I be worried about this, or wait to see if anything else happens? She has no signs of infection or anything else wrong.

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! If the skin isn't red and there isn't a wound then it could appear that the ear is bent due to the hair loss and the asymmetry compared to the other ear. You can post a picture and I'd be happy to look at it. If the ear pinna is dented, it is just cosmetic and won't cause any problems going forward. Once the hair grows back it might not even be noticeable. I hope this helps!
