Can two hamsters, male or female, live in the same cage safely?

my boyfriend and I are planning on getting 2 hamsters, if we get two girls can we keep them in the same cage? or if we get two boys can we keep them in the same cage?

IT's a very common mistake to take two hamsters and put them in the same cage, regardless of their gender, they will almost certainly fight and you will either have to eventually separate them to two different cages or you will end up with a dead hamster. i strongly recommend NOT putting two hamsters in the same cage.
