How old should my puppy be to leave crate for a puppy-proof room?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Miniature Poodle | Male | neutered | 3 months and 6 days old | 15 lbs

When should/could we transition our puppy from a crate to a puppy proof room when we’re not home?

You can do this any time. Leave the crate open in the room, where he is to spend his time, so he can go into it at any time and feel safe. Realize that your puppy still cannot hold its urine for a very long time yet, so I would not leave him alone for more than 4 hours.
