Why is my cat pooping small, dry balls? Should I worry about kidneys?

Pet's info: Cat | Persian | Male | neutered | 1 year and 11 months old | 13 lbs

Hello there, Kasper has been pooping small balls (not logs) of poop, most of his life. Most of them are not too hard, and litter sticks on them (he is not very constipated). He poops everyday, normal quantity but the shape of the poops bother me (some are dry I feed him 1 spoon of Pumpkin everyday (organic + boiled, i keep them in ice cube tray in the freezer), it helps. But I am bit worried that it has to do with his kidneys. Is it normal? I know Kasper's dad died from PKD at a young age.

This is unusual but nothing to be overly concerned about. I would give the tablespoon of pumpkin twice a day. Often cats with kidney failure do get constipated. I recommend a kidney function test if you’re worried. That would give you a baseline level to refer to as he ages. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach to help you care for Kasper.
