Why is my kitten vomiting and pooping blood? Is it an emergency?

Pet's info: Cat | Manx | Female | spayed | 8 months and 20 days old | 4 lbs

My kitten threw up 4 times yesterday, 2 were more of a normal vomit, with chunks of food in it. But the other 2 was this strange clear yellowish foamy liquid, probably stomach biol. Then today her stool had blood in it. Like any kitten, She's always getting into stuff, so it's possible she ate something odd, but I feel like it might be a bigger problem. (She also has been vomiting next to her litter box, if that makes a difference).

Poor Roma! If she is always getting into stuff, it could be that she has eaten something that has upset her stomach or caused an intestinal blockage. Because she is vomiting and having blood in her stool, I do recommend a visit with the vet as soon as possible. The vet can do x-rays to see if she does have an intestinal blockage, as well as examine her and discuss treatment options for her. I hope this helps, good luck!

Thank you for submitting your question regarding Romesh. I recommend that he sees a veterinarian. The blood is typically from the colon. It can be due to inflammation from the diet change or an intestinal infection. Other internal diseases such as pancreatitis can cause this signs as well. His veterinarian will evaluate him and determine if fecal testing or bloodwork are necessary. I hope this information helps!

I would take Tanani to the vet as soon as possible. Blood in vomit is never normal. Possible causes of vomiting include GI foreign body or blockage, ingestion of a toxin, bleeding or clotting disorder, bacterial or viral infection, intestinal parasites, etc. After examination and a discussion of her medical history, a vet may recommend bloodwork, viral testing, intestinal parasite screening, or x-rays to try to determine the cause of the bloody vomit.

It sounds as Selina is suffering from a gastrointestinal condition, possibly an infection. it might not be related to the adult food she ate, the blood and complete lack of appetite is very worrying. i would recommend taking her to the vet the first chance you get, she will need to be checked first, if the vet thinks it's a simple gastrointestinal infection she will need an anti vomiting injection, antibiotics and a special food for a few days in order to get better.

Poor kitten! I think you're in the right for trying to get in sooner to have her checked out by your vet. If she is bleeding a lot or is having severe diarrhea or vomiting, then seeking out care from another vet or even an emergency clinic may be a good idea. Keeping her bottom clean and dry can help, and feeding a bland meal of some boiled chicken may help as well until you can be seen.

This could definitely be because of the change of food but the black color concerns me that there may be digested blood present. Since she is so young and tiny, I would consider this urgent so I would try to get her into the vet soon. I would that she may become dehydrated or sicker if it isn't addressed. Your vet will likely want to run a fecal on her to check for any intestinal parasites. They may also want to know the food you are feeding her. I hope this helps and she starts to feel better soon.

Hello and thank you for contacting Boop by Petco. First of all, you should separate the new kittens from your other cats as he may carry viral diseases or worms that can be dangerous to your cats. Presence of blood in stools and vomiting can be related to worms infestation but it also could be a sign of gastrointestinal infection. Please, offer Kai small portions of good quality food (kitten food or cooked lean meat) and plenty of water to drink. The worming medication should be repeated in 2 weeks time. However, if Kai continues to vomit and pass diarrhoea with blood, you should take him to your local vets for an appointment.

Blood in the stool is an indication to have her evaluated by a veterinarian. If this continues to be an issue in the next 24-48 hours, have her evaluated by a veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. Hopefully she will improve on her own. It looks like Coco may have a small amount of rectal tissue prolapsed. This can occur if they have parasites, chronic diarrhea, foreign body or constipation. I recommend having her checked for intestinal parasites and possibly adding water to her food to help her pass stool more easily. If she is vomiting or showing any other signs of illness she should see a pet ASAP.
