My dog has a hard, worsening area on her lower tummy. What is it?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Large (61lb +) | Female | unspayed | 1 year and 9 months old | 67 lbs

I'm worried about what this is on my dog, it's been getting worse and taking up more of her lower tummy area and I have circled some areas that feel unusually hard.

Good Evening...thank you for contacting Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! I am sorry Ebony is having some trouble, I know how worrying this can be as a pet parent! From the picture, it looks like Ebony has a skin infection (superficial pyoderma) . Since the infection seems to be in multiple areas so it is likely that Ebony will need to visit the veterinarian so she can have prescription medications. This will likely consist of both antibiotics by mouth and possibly topical therapy. I hope this information helps, good luck and I hope Ebony gets the relief she needs soon! :-)
