Pet's info: Cat | Chartreux | Female | spayed | 8 years old
Hi, My cat had an abscess on her paw and a temperature which the vet gave medication for. The medicine she's been given is NOROCLAV for the infection. I noticed she's been sort of chewing at her fur and cleaning herself more than usual and she has less fur in some spots. It doesn't look like she's got fleas. I don't know if she's been doing this since she got the abscess or since she's been on the medication or even before all of this. What could the reason be and should I take her to the Vets

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Nina! I don't think she is chewing her fur out because of the abscess or the antibiotics. Possible causes are: fleas (even if you don't see them, in flea allergic animals it only takes one bite to cause an intense itch response), ringworm, demodex and even stress. I doubt she has a skin infection since she is on antibiotics. I would be sure she is on a good flea preventative. Since she is losing hair I would take her back to the Vet so they can examine the skin and do a skin scrape for mites and a fungal culture for ringworm and provide her some relief. I hope this helps and I wish Nina a speedy recovery!
