My dog won't eat, lost weight, and vets found nothing. What to do?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Bullmastiff | Male | neutered | 7 years and 3 months old | 100 lbs

I need some suggestions on getting my dog to eat. He is refusing all food. Already been to the vet and had blood panel and xrays done. All normal. I've tried different foods, meats (hamburger, chicken) and he still won't eat. I've tried force feeding him to stimulate his appetite and that didn't work. He just refuses to eat and has lost a ton of weight. Myself and 2 different vets are at a loss. Help!

I'm so sorry that you have having this problem with Ruger. I have a couple of suggestions for you. Obviously the goal is to find out why he is not eating, but it sounds like 2 vets have been unable to figure that out right now. I would discuss an anti-nausea medication and appetite stimulation medication with your veterinarian. My favorite anti-nausea medication is called Cerenia https://www.veterinarypartner.com/Content.plx?P=A&S=0&C=0&A=2798 There is a brand new appetite stimulant called Entyce. I have not had a chance to use it yet, but it appears to be very effective. http://entyce.aratana.com/ Hopefully one of those drugs or a combination of them will be useful for Ruger. Good luck! I hope that was helpful. Thanks for using PetCoach.
