My puppy has parvo, is vomiting and sleeping a lot. Will he survive?

My puppy is no mw getting sick , the doctor said he has parvo virus , and he got treatment this morning . Tomorrow also have to go to doctor . He can’t eat because he vomits everything he eats . Now we are giving him electrolyte . Tonight there is no blood in his stool but still vomitting . There is alot mucus in vomit . Will he get better ? He’s now always clam and sleeping . He can’t even run and play . I am so worry about him . Plz can you tell his condition ?

I'm so sorry that Thor has parvovirus! It is a very contagious and unfortunately a very deadly disease. Keep giving him fluids, as dehydration is the number one cause of death in these puppies. When you bring him into the vet tomorrow, I would ask about giving him an anti-nausea shot so that hopefully he stops vomiting. I hope that he does get better, but as I said it's a very deadly disease and many puppies do not survive. Only time will tell if he survives or not. Take him back into the vet as soon as possible.

She will need to be on IV fluids, injectable antibiotics, and anti-nausea medication. Your veterinarian is right that she needs to eat. If the medication can control her vomiting, this will help her to keep food down. There is no way to know for sure if she will survive, but it sounds like you are providing her the care she needs. Poor Tyson. He sounds very ill and his survival is up in the air. Your vet is the only one who can accurately tell you his prognosis based on his diagnosis and current physical status. He may have contracted parvovirus based on your description and that typically carries an 80% survival rate for hospitalized pets and less than 40% for non-hospitalized pets. The key is to treat these pets aggressively with fluids, antibiotics, nutritional supplements, pain medication and anti-vomit medication. Sometimes complications can arise and most pets who don't survive do so because of those complications (i.e. Dehydration, intussusception, etc). I hope that your puppy Tyson is able to pull through. Work with your vet to ensure he has all the treatments stated above to give him the best chance at survival. Best wishes and take care.

Thanks for using Boop by Petco! Yes, he can survive though will require appropriate therapy and in a timely fashion. This usually involves intravenous fluids, antibiotics, supportive care medications for like diarrhea and vomiting if present, among other possible therapies. I recommend that you have him evaluated by your closest emergency clinic as soon as possible as the main concern with these patients is severe dehydration and anemia if there is blood involved. Oh your poor pup! If he isn't fully vaccinated, then yes it could be that he has parvo. This is a highly contagious and very deadly disease. You need to follow the vet's course of treatment carefully, and be sure to rush him back into the vet if he gets worse. You can offer him small amounts of Pediasure using a syringe or small turkey baster. It's very important to keep him hydrated, as dehydration is the number one cause of death in these patients. He also needs nutritional support such as Nutri-cal, available over the counter perhaps at your local pet store. I hope this helps, and I hope he survives this terrible disease! Best of luck.

Thanks for using Boop by Petco! Parvovirus is a severe gastroenteritis that affect puppies more often. This is a viral infection so there is no direct treatment for the virus so the treatment per se is directed at treating secondary bacterial infections and mostly helping with the clinical symptoms of vomiting, diarrhea and inappetence. This warrants ideally hospitalization with some cases being able to be managed with outpatient care depending on its severity. I recommend that you follow up with a veterinarian who can institute therapy for Loki as soon as possible. The quicker this condition gets treated the better the outcome tends to be. Good luck! It sounds like your puppy is extremely sick, and parvovirus can take a few weeks for a dog to fully recover. It's very concerning he is not drinking as dehydration is the number one cause of death in these animals. He should see a vet again immediately, please take him into one now. Best of luck.

What are the chances of a puppy surviving Parvo? Didn't get his shots. Not having diarrhea but is throwing up, very Tired, he will get up and walk to his bowls but won't eat, he will drink the pedialite on his own.
I'm sorry Ziggy has parvo! For dogs that receive prompt medical attention and survive acute infection the prognosis is good. Dehydration is the number one cause of death in dogs with parvo, and throwing up frequently will cause him to be dehydrated. It's very important to make sure he keeps drinking the Pedialyte, and if he hasn't seen a vet, I would take him into one now. He could be throwing up the Pedialyte, therefore getting no fluid support from it at all. He needs medications which include antibiotics (injectable Cefazolin or Ampicillin is needed since he isn't eating), anti-nausea medication (i.e Cerenia or Metoclopramide), and nutritional support (Nutri-cal, available over the counter perhaps at your local pet store). He also likely needs IV fluids to keep his hydration up. For the best chance of Ziggy's survival, I would take him into a vet immediately.

Parvo virus is very serious and each case is different. Some dogs survive, while others don't despite our best efforts. Please ensure he is under the care of a veterinarian and he may even need to be hospitalized. I'm sorry you are going through this and I wish you the best.

Poor Barfi. To have the best chance of survival, your dog does need to be hospitalized. Parvovirus treatment consists of aggressive supportive care to control the symptoms and boost your dog’s immune system to help him win the battle against this dangerous disease. Dogs infected with parvovirus need intensive treatment in a veterinary hospital, where they receive antibiotics, drugs to control the vomiting, intravenous fluids, and other supportive therapies. I would take him into the closest vet now.
