Hi I have a cocker spaniel 17 months old and he wakes us up at 3 or 4 in a morning constantly howling it's not like he needs to go outside I think he's just very needy I would appreciate any advice on how to deal with this. Thank you Alan

If you have been responding to Charlie when he howls, it encourages him to keep doing it. If you're sure his needs have been met for the night, ignore the noise totally. He may increase it at first, because it has worked up until now and he may think more is better. Whatever the case, continue to turn a deaf ear. Once he learns that his behavior is not going to get him the attention he wants (and even negative attention, like yelling at him to stop, is better to him than none), he'll stop. Good luck with this!
