Why did my white Pomeranian have black puppies? Is it genetic?

Pet's info: Dog | Pomeranian | Female | 2 years and 2 months old | 18 lbs

Hello doc, My pet delivered (20/03/2018) 5pups in that one pup was died. so, two pups were in black colour rest of the three was white as pomerian breed. Mating was done with same pomerian breed means father also same white coloured so how can black puppies will come. Thank you

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Coat color genetics is complicated and isn’t straight forward. The fact you got 2 black puppies when mating 2 white Pomeranians means somewhere in the lines of either one or both parents had black coated relatives. What you see isn’t always what you get with genes. That’s why 2 brown eyed people sometimes have a blue eyed baby. I hope this helps!
