Distemper risk: When can my vaccinated dog walk? Boost immunity?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

My neighbor's dog died of distemper 2 days ago. Because of this I stopped taking my dog out for a walk. How long do I have to wait before I can take my dog out again? I'm worried about his safety even though he was vaccinated already. Also, how can I boost his immune system? Thank you.

As long as your dog is vaccinated it’s ok to take him out for a walk. Don’t go to the neighbors house and don’t have your dog touch other dogs or wild animals. If your vaccine wasn’t recent you can have it boosted to increase his immunity. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach to help you care for your dog.
