Is it normal for a 2-week-old bottle-fed kitten to poop once a day?

I am bottle feeding my 2 weeks old kitten 5-6 times per day every 3-4 hours. Is it normal for kitten to poop just once a day?

It can be normal that a kitten only poops once a day. As you know by now, you have to stimulate them to pass urine and feces, and those are not always produced after every feeding. As long as they are passing stool at least once a day, it's fine. I hope this helps!

Hi and thanks for using Boop by Petco! You should offer a small amount of food about 3-4 times daily and in really small kittens, every few hours might be needed. Eliminations and the frequency thereof, are dependent on many things depending on food intake, type of food, water intake etc. As long as she is not straining and trying to poop, it could be up to another 24-36 hours. She is getting accustomed to her new and that is probably slowing up the fecal elimination process. Again, no straining to have a bowel movement usually means that everything is ok, especially if the kitten is eating and drinking normally. Just keep monitoring for a bowel movement and monitor behavior, appetite, etc. If things change and you are unsure have your veterinarian evaluate the kitten. I hope everything works out ok.

Hi, she should pass feaces at least once a day. Sometimes making the formula milk a little less concentrated helps. You should also massage gently Lulu’s tummy after every feed. Kittens need to be stimulated to poop: take a warm washcloth and gently rub her anal opening and she should defecate. Kittens who are bottle fed formula will sometimes become constipated, so if she goes another 24 hours without defecating you should see a veterinarian to see if she may be constipated. Congrats on your new kitten! Yes, it is normal for a kitten to pass multiple times a day, especially if she is being fed multiple times a day or has food left out at all times. Poop does stink lol! It could be the combination of the food causing the smell, but I would continue to feed it to Ovey because it was recommended by your vet :-)

Congratulations on your new kitten! So far, it seems sounds like you're doing everything correctly. Pooping twice a day is completely normal. I also recommend feeding twice daily, just as you are doing. Brands that I commonly recommend feeding are Science Diet, Purina ProPlan and Royal Canin. If you choose to make a change in her diet, do so by gradually mix in the old and new foods together over 5-7 days. You can choose to feed exclusively wet or dry food, or a mix of both. This is largely a matter of personal preference. Be sure that you are feeding a food formulated for kittens or "all life stages" to aid in growth. She should continue to eat kitten food until 1 year of age, at which point you can transition to an adult cat food. Enjoy your new little kitten!

3 weeks is very young. Under normal circumstances a kitten should be with its mommy until it is 10 to 12 weeks old. Your kitten will still need to be fed with kitten milk (bottle feeding). You can get a bottle and Kitten milk at a large supermarket or your vet;s office. At three weeks, the mother still licks and stimulates the kittens genitals and anus to entice it to urinate and defecate. She then removes the urine and feces. You will need to do this with a soft tissue moistened with warm water every time you feed her. At 3 weeks of age she should be fed every 4 hours. Once she is around 4 to 5 weeks old you can offer her canned kitten food in addition to the milk. No. The kitten should urinate and defecate after each feeding. This is done by gently stimulating the hind end using a warm wash cloth in a circular motion. Bottle feed using an appropriate kitten milk replacer such as KMR.

As long as Okoye is pooping at least once a day, I wouldn't be too worried about her. I would be concerned if she wasn't pooping at all. Make sure the milk you are giving her is kitten milk replacer or a specific cat milk. Cats are lactose intolerant and shouldn't be given cow's milk. I would feed her at least three times a day with wet food. This is because wet food can dry out quickly and become unappetizing to her, leading her to not eat it. You can mix together wet food and dry food for her, or just feed her dry food. If you feed her dry food, you can leave the food out all the time. Feed her three times a day with the wet food until she is six months old, and then you can feed her twice a day. Good luck, I hope this helps!

Hi,are you sure that he he is not passing feaces and that mummy cleans him straight away ? Normally they pass feaces once mummy stimulates them by gentle cleaning, so perhaps when he goes you are not seeing him. If he had been constipated for a week he would be very poorly by now. Hope thsi makes sense.
