Why is my small dog hunched, in pain, and yelping when jumping?

Pet's info: Dog | Maltese | Male | unneutered | 1 year and 2 months old | 11.2 lbs

My 1year old Maltese x Shitz Zu went to the vet two days ago in pain wasn’t eating drinking and hunched over and appeared spaced out , vet checked and gave a pain relief and anti biotic shop and dog appeared fine but has now returned back to the same today and yelled twice when jumping up , what could it be ? The vet was at loss what it could be .

Thank you for submitting your question regarding Bundy. Has he been assessed for neck and/or back pain? This is common in small breed dogs. Symptoms can include a reluctance to move, jump or do stairs. Many walk with a hunched posture and will yelp when being picked up. The most common condition causing this pain is known as intervertebral disc disease. I would ask his veterinarian if this is a possibility. I hope this information helps!
