My cat's neuter incision opened, pink thing sticking out. Emergency?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Mediumhair | Male | neutered | 7 months and 7 days old | 8 lbs

My male cat got fixed today and in the carrier on the way home from the mobile clinic he tore open the incision, and now a pink thing appears to be protruding from the incision. Is this okay? Do I need to be rushing to the vet, can I wait till morning to call the clinic I have no idea what to do

I hate to hear that this happened to Rusty. That looks like it is likely the subcutaneous tissue. Ideally that could be glued tonight with the sterile surgical glue. If you see anything coming through that looks like a tube, you need to be worried. I recommend to call the clinic and see if you can run him back in. Better to deal with things tonight rather than wait for the tissue to dry out- which still might be ok but not ideal. Best of luck with the little guy!
