Why is my weaned kitten thin and not eating like her littermates?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Female | unspayed | 2 months and 5 days old | 0.77 lbs

Hello, I have 3 kittens that are 9 and a half weeks old, they are hand raised from day 1 on formula. Now they are weaned but one seems less interested in food. All she wants to do is play, shes very active, curious but rather thin looking and eats less than her littermates. Her weight is 980grams/ 2lbs2ounces. She does eat but less so than the others. I have tried different wet and dry foods for kittens, even boiled chicken, and found nothing so far that she will eat with much passion.

It's hard to say if this is medical or behavioral. Some pets are not very food motivated. Definitely watch her weight gain, most kittens will gain about 1 pound per month. Monitor her for any signs of illness such as diarrhea or vomiting. If you have not tried it yet, try to Royal Canin baby cat food. Most kittens seem to like it. When in doubt, have her checked out by a veterinarian. I hope this helps!
