Cat's paw swollen and feverish after surgery. What should I do?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Siamese | Male | neutered | 11 years and 5 months old | 13 lbs

Cat had urinary block and performed PU surgery with 3 urate stones flushed. In recovery mode until he started vomiting. Took him in for bloodwork and fluids. Results came back fine. The day AFTER he got a swollen paw and 103 (in the AM then 104.7 PM) temp. Given antibiotics and next day temp was 104. Took xrays and nothing was wrong. Paw and pads are warm so may not be blood clot. He's eating/poop/peeing. We do not know why this is happening and how to treat it. Any advice will help. Thank you.

Thank you for submitting your question regarding the Mumble. Is it possible that he has an infection from his IV catheter site? That would be my first consideration given the swelling is on a front paw and his front limbs are shaved for catheter sites. It is good that he is receiving antibiotics. Hopefully he improves soon. Good luck!
