Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Female | unspayed | 11 years and 7 months old
Hi, I need advice for quality foods, vitamins and/or supplements for older cat,I have problems with most of the things that are for senior cats because there is l-thryptofan in all of them and she doesn't feel good with it, she vomits after all the things that have l-thryptofan in them, also is there anything to keep her teeth in good health, that is not hard on the kidneys, she now eats diets low in calcium, magnesium and phosphor for her urinary problems, but that made her teeth to suffer, thanks

Hello, L-thryptofan (L-tryptophan- I believe it is spelled differently here) is an essential amino acid for cats. This means it must be present in her diet in some form because the body needs it to live. However, there's no need to give her any supplements or treats with excessive L-tryptophan if they seem to have a negative effect on her. It sounds like she was perhaps given a prescription diet for kidney disease that made her teeth hurt- there are prescription kidney disease diets that come in canned or wet form that may be easier on her teeth. I would recommend talking to your veterinarian about trying these diets for her, as it will be the absolute best diet for her kidneys and urinary health. I would also talk to your vet about her teeth, because she may have dental disease or a tooth infection that makes eating any type of food difficult for her. In this case, your vet would recommend a dental cleaning and possible tooth extractions to make eating much easier for her. I hope this has been helpful. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach.
