My cat vomited after new kitten arrived. Is it stress or illness?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Female | spayed | 8 months and 3 days old | 6.5 lbs

I brought home a new kitten yesterday, she is separated from my other cats, so no contact. My other two cats aren't very pleased but one of them started to vomit today, could that just be a stress reaction? I'm taking her to the vet in the morning but I'm so uneasy.

Bring a new cat into the house can be stressful, so yes that could potentially be a cause of Kiri's vomiting. It could also be an illness. I think having her seen by a vet tomorrow is a great idea. I hope this helps.

Yes, stress could cause a cat to vomit. Other things that can cause a cat to vomit include: a change in food, hair balls, a foreign body, kidney disease, or diabetes. You can try to help relax your cat by giving her some cat nip or spraying a cat pheromone spray like the feliway brand. It may take several weeks for your cats to adjust to each other. If your cat continues to vomit, is lethargic/acting sick, or showing signs of a metabolic issue (drinking more water or urinating more often than normal) then it would be best to have her examined by a veterinarian. I hope this has helped. Thank you for using pet coach.
