My young outdoor cat has an eye injury. Can I wait to see a vet?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Male | 9 months and 6 days old

I have a young male cat, he’s almost a year old now and he stays outside with 6 other male cats but they’re all tame and I’ve never seen them fighting; but something happened to one of their eyes, and I was wondering if he would be alright until we’re able to take him to the vet? Not long ago, we had one of the other cats go blind in one of his eyes due to something happening to it as well, he had to have his removed, I’m not sure what’s going on with them but wanted someone’s opinion. Thanks!!

Thank you for submitting your question regarding Runt. There is tissue protruding from his eye. It is likely his third eyelid. It could have been torn in a fight. He could also have developed a growth that is protruding from the area of his third eyelid. His veterinarian will let you know based on his exam findings. He may also require a test to ensure that the eye itself has not sustained any damage. I hope this information helps!
