My dog has constant green eye goop. Is it serious or needs a vet?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Golden Retriever | Female | spayed | 10 months and 5 days old | 54 lbs

Every morning my dogs eyes have a little bit of goop in them. Yesterday afternoon after we took her to the dog park I noticed a really big dried chunk of goop that was greenish. Every since we’ve had to constantly wipe her eyes because goop keeps forming. Should we be concerned or can I just rinse her eye good and maybe apply a tea bag?

Kylo could have conjunctivitis which can be caused by infections or allergies. I would recommend having your veterinarian take a look - they might also want to apply a stain to the eyes to make sure there's no evidence of a scratch on the corneas. Allergic and infectious conjunctivitis are usually treated with various topical eye drops. I wouldn't recommend a tea bag on her eye - it could be irritating.
