Visually, male and female Quaker parrots appear to be identical. Unless you buy a parrot with papers that state the bird's sex, you will have to use the services of a vet or DNA-testing laboratory to determine the gender of your parrot.

    Some birds have visual differences between males and females. Other birds need to have a genetic test done (this is usually done on a blood feather). Please try reposting with a photo of your birds, their age and their species.

Going by cere color, I would agree with your assessment of gender. If you want to know definitively, you can have them sexed by submitting DNA samples (feathers or blood) on each bird. Your veterinarian can do this for you. An experienced avian veterinarian can also sex the surgically.

What sex are my birds?
Thanks for reaching out. Love birds are not sexually dimorphic (can't determine sex by appearances). Palpation of the ventral pubis can sometimes give a clue as sex. Blood sexing is available through most veterinarians who see birds. Sexually mature females during breeding mode, will often tear up paper and place in their wings, a quirky female lovebird thing. How can you tell the gender of a sun conure?
Sun Conures are monomorphic which means that both the male and female Sun Conure have similar features and are impossible to tell apart. You would have to have a DNA test done by an avian vet to know for sure.

How can I find out my parakeets gender?
You'll need to wait until they are at least 8-12 months old before accurately determining gender. Males will have a blue or purple hue to the cere (nose) and females will have a more flesh colored cere.

Is ocean a boy or a girl?
Ocean is too young yet to be visually sexed. You will need to wait until he or she is at least 12 months old. There are still bars (stripes) on the top of the head and the iris ring is very faint. It will take at lest 6 more months, maybe 8, before you can determine sex visually. You have the option of having a DNA sex test done. Your vet can submit feather and/or blood samples for this test.

I want to know the gender of my budgies.
If they are at least 12 months of age, you can determine gender by looking at the color of the cere (nose). In males, the cere is a blue color. In females, it is tan/brown. If they are younger, you will need to wait or you can have them sexed by DNA using blood or feather samples.

It's not recommended to try breeding them before the age of one year. I'm not sure which parrots you have, but the vast majority of them the male and female look exactly the same, which means if you or the breeder have not done a DNA test, there is no way to know if you indeed have a female and a male.

Palpation of the pelvic bones is certainly a valid method of sexing birds, but a somewhat difficult one. Even experienced veterinary professionals still have difficultly sexing birds by this method or many others. In all honesty the only way to truly sex these parrots is by either waiting to see if it lays eggs or with imaging modalities at your veterinarian. In terms of general avian care, the first thing I would do is locate an avian veterinarian and establish a relationship. It does not have to be a specialist, but at least someone who is familiar and comfortable working with pet birds (unfortunately there are not too many). They can help walk you through some of the quirks of parrots in particular. In regards to general husbandry, wing clipping is not usually necessary more than once a year. How can we identify gender of a pigeon easily? Is it possible to identify its sex after birth?
The only way to tell a pigeon's gender for certain is a DNA feather or blood test that can be done by an avian vet, or witnessing your pigeon laying an egg! There are some methods of observation used by some individuals that anecdotally can tell you an idea of the gender, but they are not scientifically proven. These would include comparing the shape of the head (supposedly males have a higher/pronounced crown on top of their head), the size of the bird (males tend to be larger/have fluffier plumage whereas females tend to be more streamlined). But these are not proven methods to determine the gender.
