My husband accidentally gave our 50lb dog 1/2 can of purée pumpkin with 2 cups of dry kibble instead of the 1/2 teaspoon. What should I be on the look for?

Thank you for contacting Pet Coach with your question about Dayday. This is a lot of fiber and it may cause constipation or it could cause diarrhea. If you see constipation, do not give him pumpkin puree for a few days, and add water to his dry food to get more moisture in his diet. If he does have diarrhea, withhold food for 12-24 hours, then feed a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) and white rice in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Then slowly add back in his normal diet. Best of luck, I hope this helps!

Hi and thanks for posting on Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! While 1.5 cans of pumpkin does sound like a lot for one dog for one day, eating this much will not likely cause a significant health problem. T-Rex may have some transient diarrhea from eating too much fiber, however! As long as she appears like her usual lively self, I wouldn't worry too much. If she starts having diarrhea, however, you may want to ease up on the pumpkin. Perhaps 1/2 can a day would be better in that case. I hope this helps!
