My dog has parvo. How can I help her recover faster at home?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Female | 3 months and 13 days old | 15 lbs

Mona has been diagnosed by the vet with parvo. They said she will more than likely make it bc we caught it so early. She’s slowly getting better. Throwing up sometimes but I’m giving her meds for nausea and she’s been leaking diarrhea out of her butt. So she’s wearing diapers now. But her stools are no longer bloody. What else can I do other than give her the meds and lots of water to speed up the process of her getting better.?? I am treating her at home bc I couldn’t afford to hospitalize her.

I'm sorry Mona has parvo! Keep giving her medications as directed by her vet. As long as she is getting fluid therapy, she is getting much needed electrolytes which is greatly beneficial towards her improvement because dehydration is the number one cause of death in these pets. You can also offer her small amounts of Pediasure using a syringe or small turkey baster. Nutritional support may be beneficial such as Nutri-cal, available over the counter perhaps at your local pet store. I hope this helps!
