My parvo puppy has bloody diarrhea again. Is this normal for recovery?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Shih Tzu | Male | 3 months and 12 days old | 10 lbs

My pup is positive in parvo. Just yesterday, his vet said that he’ll just gonna be fine and just needed some rest. And just a while ago,the vet called me and told me that he had a bloody diarrhea again. Is this normal for a pup that is recovering from parvo?

Hello and welcome to Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. Parvovirus is very serious and very often animals require intensive intervention including IV fluids, anti-nausea medications, sometimes antibiotics. Parvovirus also does often have a phase where they look better, and then get much sicker again before they completely recover. I recommend you continue with aggressive treatment for Blake, and hopefully he will pull through. Best of luck with Blake, I hope he feels better soon!
