My 8-month-old puppy lost a canine tooth. Is it adult or baby?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Chorkie | Female | unspayed | 8 months and 1 day old | 8 lbs

My 8 month old puppy and I were playing tug and one of her canine teeth broke out. I am concerned because I don’t know whether it’s an adult tooth or just a baby tooth. I’m not sure if she can still lose teeth at this age.

I hate to hear Ellie is giving you a scare! At her age it could be either. Save the tooth and take it into your vet's office. You can usually tell by looking at it. When in doubt, you could also make an appointment and bring Ellie with you so they can look in her mouth which may help to know if it is an adult tooth it. Hopefully it's just a baby tooth! I hope this helps to point you in the right direction. Please feel free to post any further questions!
