My fish died suddenly. Is my snail sick or dead? What should I do?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Hi, I have a 48 litre tank with 6 platies and two red spotted snails, I also had a black corydora catfish he was fine lastnight but was dead at the bottom of the tank this morning, now one of my snails hasn’t come out or moved in 4 days I have tried the tests online to see if he is dead but I am still unsure if he is just sick or shy, is there anything you would recommend, thanks.(I have removed him into his own tank just in case.)

Thanks for reaching out. Testing water quality for pH, ammonia, nitrite and nitrate is the first step, correct any problems. There are few diseases transmitted between fish and invertebrates. If problems persist, a visit to a veterinarian is recommended. Good luck.
