Lovebirds laid eggs: When can I clean their cage without disturbing them?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Bird | Lovebird | Male | unneutered

I have a pair of peach faced love birds. I never placed a nesting box in their cage. Between the two of them they shredded toys, wood blocks from toys, the poop pad and made their own make-shift nest. The female Iris has laid 4 eggs. I discovered the first two on 12/19 and the last on 12-23. I have been advised to just leave things alone but at what point should I got in and clean? I removed the grill above the catch tray and that is where they have their homemade nest so I can clean anything.

Thanks for reaching out about Arco. Cleaning the cage should be okay but leave the nest area alone. Incubation time is around 16 days. Provide plenty of high energy foods so the parents can raise the babies. Good luck.
