My senior dog's noisy breathing after kennel cough: Vet check?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | American Pit Bull Terrier | Male | neutered | 9 years old | 77 lbs

My dog is 9yrs old we adopted him last month from a shelter and he was diagnosed with kennel cough and put on antibiotics and cough meds. He completed the meds and he doesn't cough much anymore except during play. His breathing is still pretty noisy especially when he's playing. Is it just because his age or should I have him checked again. Everything else is normal IE eating, drinking, playing, sleeping and even his gum color

Hi, If the dog completed his antibiotic course but still he is presenting signs of cough and breathing sounds, I would recommend to follow up with the vet. Senior dogs can show longer signs of illness in kennel cough but that needs to be monitored by a vet because if persist further investigation may be warranted.
