My cat drools a lot and stinks after deworming. What should I do?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Maine Coon | Female | unspayed

I got my cat (farm born, 5 months old, unsprayed female) checked out and vaccinated yesterday and it turns out she has roundworms, which we are treating. I'm now concerned because every time she sleeps, she drools a lot to the point that it leaves a big wet spot on here or on the couch. And it stinks. Is this normal? What should I do? Cause the vet checked her teeth too yesterday.

If Roxy was just dewormed it could be causing her a bit of nausea and GI upset as the worms die-off, which could be causing the drooling. However, if the drooling continues, worsens, she shows other signs of illness, or she seems in distress/disoriented, bringing her back to the vet for additional examination is best to make sure there isn't something else going on.
