My pure white Mini Aussie puppy's eye won't open. Is it fixable?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

We will have a pure white mini Australian Shepherd puppy on Jan 15. Her left eye doesn't completely open. She hears fine. Sees fine from the right eye. Are we facing something that can be fixed or will this be a lifetime hardship for the dog? I've read about the lethal white phenomenon but breeder says that's not what happened. Kids can't wait to get her home. Advice?

Speak to the breeder and have her checked out by your vet before bringing her home. The vet can advise you on what is causing the problem with her eye, and if it's something that can be fixed or cause life long problems. Any reasonable breeder will allow you to do this. If the breeder will not allow it, I would be very suspicious and recommend not getting this puppy. I hope this helps.
