Can my dog safely take gabapentin, Metacam, and joint supplements?

hello my border collie is 14 and has had bad hips for 4 years early hours of thursday morning he back end totally went down...vet has proscribed gabapentin ,he has already been on joint supplement and metacam ,would it be safe for him to take both,he had one of these tablets this morning and its knocked him out alday.im worried of over dosing its horrible to see him in such pain

Yes, it is safe to give gabapentin with Metacam and the joint supplement. Gabapentin is a drug that affects the nerves in the brain that are involved with the pain response. It can take up to three weeks before the body is used to the gabapentin and is not affected by drowsiness. The drowsiness is not something you have to worry about, it will go away. Be patient, it will take at least a week , up to three weeks.
