How to prevent paddling in a dog with brain injury and seizures?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | DOG-SMALL-SHORTHAIR | Female | unspayed

Found a stray who had met with a car accident 3 days ago. Took her to the vet immediately. Diagnosed with brain injury and a fracture in vertebra. Doc advised to give drips daily twice to stabilize. She keeps getting seizures throughout the day and starts paddling a lot. How can i stop her from paddling preventing further damage to brain? We have been taking her to the vet daily, but unable to stop the seizures. Cant sleep at night too as we have to hold her while she paddles to prevent damage.

Oh poor baby. From the very little I know about her situation, I think she probably needs to be hospitalized full time and receive IV medications to try to stop the seizures or possible be put under anesthesia to allow her brain to heal a bit. It sounds like her prognosis is guarded at this point and she may not make it. There isn't anything you can do at home. Thank you for trying to take care of her and I hope she pulls through, but if she doesn't, then know you've done everything possible for her.
