Puppy sore after vaccine shot? What are common side effects?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | French Bulldog | Male | unneutered | 3 months and 24 days old | 10 lbs

Hi my 16 week French Bulldog had his last of 3 immunisations today what side effects can I expect? He yelped when I tried to pick him up and stiffens when we pat anywhere near his side where the vet did the shot

Hello, thank you for your question about Chester. I suspect that the symptoms that you are noticing are secondary to mild pain/inflammation at the injection site, which is a fairly common side effect after vaccination. This should go away within the next 24-48 hours. Additional side effects could include mild lethargy. More serious signs of a vaccine reaction can include facial swelling, hives, vomiting, diarrhea, or collapse. If Chester develops any of these symptoms I would recommend having him evaluated by a veterinarian immediately. Hope this helps, good luck!
