My Pomeranian is limping after a fall. What's wrong with her leg?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Pomeranian | Female | spayed | 2 years and 1 month old | 11.8 lbs

I have a 2 year old Pomeranian. She was outside running one day and started limping. She shook it off and proceeded to play until she wasn’t looking where she was going and tripped over a fallen branch and tumbled down the hill she got up and went straight to the back door still limping. She wasn’t crying or anything’s just a limp. I need to know why or what could be wrong. Thanks!

Hello. Can you tell if any particular area of her leg hurts? Gently feel up & down the limb. Look at each toe & each nail bed to make sure she did not tear a nail. If you do not feel or see anything, then your vet is the best person to figure out what is wrong with her. She may have a simple strain or sprain, or she may have torn a tendon or ligament. Regardless, x-rays may be necessary. Pain medications, rest, cool compresses, even cold laser therapy may all help to repair Greta's injury & get her feeling better quickly. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach.
