My dog sheds a lot and pees inside. Is this a medical issue?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Large (61lb +) | Male | neutered | 10 months and 29 days old | 80 lbs

My dog is almost one and has gone from rarely shedding to shedding a lot. I am picking up clumps of fur off the floor. He has also gone from always peeing outside to peeing the house 3 times in the last week. I am not sure if I should be concerned about a medical issue?

This is common time of year for dogs to "blow their coat" as a new type of hair comes it. This can also happen when switching from a puppy to adult coat. Unless you're seeing bald patches or he's itching, I wouldn't worry about the shedding. As far as the urinating, that does have me more concerned and I'd recommend a vet visit to rule out a medical problem and then restarting house training if no medical problem is found.
