When should I give my dog serum eye drops after ulcer surgery?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Boxer | Female | unspayed | 10 years old | 86 lbs

My boxer dog has just had a GA to have a superficial corneal ulcer burred. All went very well. We have been sent home with eye drops made from her blood serum which we know we have to give every 1-2 hrs. But we weren't told when to start them. I rang the vets but got the receptionist who said no-one was available and that she wasn't a vet, but to "probably" start them in the morning. I'm not convinced. Surely her eye needs these drops sooner rather than later? What would your advice be please?

Hi there! After I debride these boxer non-healing ulcers I usually start medication that afternoon. While I am not your veterinarian and can’t tell you specifically what they want you to do, in my patients I want the medications started soon. I hope this helps answer your question! Best of luck and I hope Saira heals soon! Those ulcers can be so frustrating! Thank you for using Pet Coach.
