Is my 8-month-old kitten's facial hair loss normal or a concern?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Female | spayed | 8 lbs

Hello Doctor! I have an 8 month old kitten and I think she has facial alopecia in the area between her ears and eyes. Is this too early for her age or is it normal? Our last vet visit was when she was 4-5 months old to get her spayed and vaccinated. This is our first time taking care of a kitten so we don't know much. How often should we visit the vet? The vet had told us that it wasn't necessary to bring her after the last visit.

Hello, thank you for your question about Cammy. If Cammy is not bothered by the hair loss and the associated skin is not red or irritated I would not be overly concerned about the areas of hair loss; this is not uncommon in cats. Since Cammy has had all of her kitten vaccines, a yearly check-up/examination is all that is needed/recommended. This will help ensure that Cammy stays healthy and up to date on her vaccines. If you notice any problems or have any concerns about Cammy I would recommend having her seen by a veterinarian sooner than a year. Hope this helps, good luck!
