My cat's eye is swollen with white dots and scabs. Vet or home?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Female | spayed | 1 year and 6 months old

My cat bayley is a very anxious cat so can’t get her to sit still long enough for a photo but she seems to have which appears to be quite a swollen eye and it looks like white dots also she has very red forehead and small scabs! She is an indoor cat as is her sister. All injections etc are up to date. Is it with taking her to the vet or is there something I can do at home?

Poor girl. If there is swelling and scabbing, I would definitely recommend taking Bayley in to your vet for a thorough look at her eye to ensure everything is ok. It sounds like she may have an infection and in need of prescription topical eye medication through your vet. The scabs may be from her scratching around her eye or a separate issue (i.e. fleas, bacterial infection, etc) altogether. After physical exam the vet should be able to figure out the cause and get her on medication to help with that too. I hope that things work out well for your pet Bayley moving forward. Best wishes and take care!
