My cat's previous abscess site is swollen and blue. Should I worry?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Male | neutered | 7 lbs

My cat had an abscess on his around around 2 months ago, we took him to the vets and he was treated with antibiotics and anti inflammatory. The abscess burst and was cleaned. However, I have today noticed that where the hole was has swollen up and looks a little blue. Should I be concerned? I can’t get him to the vets until Friday morning at the earliest

Hello. There may have been a very small nidus of infection that remained after the first infection. Marley may need another round of antibiotics, but waiting until Friday should not be too problematic. You can apply a warm compress to the area to provide some relief, but just have it looked at at your earliest convenience. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach.
