Why is my dog's neuter incision still oozing after 5 days?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Chihuahua (Smooth Coat) | Male | neutered | 11 years and 6 months old | 8 lbs

Is it normal for a little bit of oozing or seepage from neuter incision 5 days after procedure? It did it yesterday too and this morning it was dry but now it looks like it’s doing it again. Very little but still noticeable. He is acting normal and eating. One of those pictures is before and yesterday when started noticing ooze. Just got more black in color.

Thank you for submitting your question regarding Reese. It is not entirely normal for an incision to ooze this long. The site does appear healthy though. Be sure to keep his activity level very limited as this will decrease swelling and oozing. Also make sure that he is not able to lick the incision site. Have your veterinarian check it if the oozing continues. I hope this information helps!
