Female dog won't get up, has yellow vaginal discharge. What to do?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Great Dane | Female | spayed | 2 years and 3 months old | 130 lbs

I have a 2 yr old female Great Dane. She is always Very spunky and a happy but would not get out of bed this morning. She will not eat or drink or even get up to walk around. She seems to be uncomfortable and her eyes were very dilated this morning. She also has a yellowish discharge coming from her vagina. There are no vets open in our area today and we are hoping you can provide us with some advice.

Those are definitely concerning symptoms that warrant getting her to the vet as soon as possible. If she's awake and alert, breathing normally, with pink gums like the picture, waiting until first thing tomorrow morning is likely ok, but I can't be sure something serious isn't going on from what you've described. The list of possible causes is long and varies from a minor soft tissue injury, to an orthopedic issue, or something life threatening like a twisted stomach or pyometra (very uncommon in spayed dogs).
