Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Female | spayed | 9 years and 11 months old | 4 lbs
Is it normal for her heart rate to get in the 50’s if she’s semi-sleep? But when my sister walked in the room she jumped up & it went to 80 bpm. She’s generally very energetic. I’ve been monitoring her vitals before I have her seen Thursday. She already had a full bloodwork with UA & T4 sent out & the results came back normal. Would it have been evidence there if she was having lung or heart problems? Or should I get an ultrasound before her dental to be sure? Dr said they sounded good

If your dog had a heart or lung problem, she would have a high heart rate as well as a high respiratory rate. That said, a heart rate of 50 per minute is quite low, so I am thinking you may not be counting right. Count the beats for 15 seconds and then multiply by 4. Do this three times in a row and then take the average.I recommend you trust your vet. If he says all is well, then all is well. He would not do the dental cleaning under anesthesia if he though there was an exceptional risk.
